Quilt-A-Day, Day 7

This month, I'm blogging about a new or recent finish every day.

This custom quilt used up most of my remaining Hunky Dory stash.
I love the combination of "funky" and "sweet" in this fabric collection!

The pattern for this quilt is coming soon!

Hometown Stars

Another favorite finish from the past month was this Hometown Stars quilt. Although this fabric collection is extremely hard to find in precuts, I've managed to hoard a bit of it so I can make at least a couple more of these for the shop.

In fact, I've hoarded so much Sweetwater fabric that I think it's time to make a quilt combining several of their collections! I have some ideas floating around in my head, and I'm looking forward to playing with them!

Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 5

Today's quilt is another photo quilt!

This one is made of Martinique fabrics by Three Sisters for Moda fabrics.

This collection is out of print, but I was able to find some fabrics through an extensive Internet search!

I just love these colors -- they remind me of a beach house.

Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 4

I often have customers order quilts to showcase some family photos. I use my Hip to Be Square pattern, which is a great way to showcase the images in the block centers. (Note: I've purposely blurred the photos in the following images since this was a customer quilt).

My favorite product for printing the photos is Printed Treasures fabric sheets:

They are fairly expensive, but I usually buy them at Joann's with a coupon. I've found them to print the best quality images, and they seem to hold up well in the wash.

This particular quilt was made out of the Cuzco collection by Kate Spain. I love the way the fabrics work with the colors in the photos.

Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 3

Today's post is a continuation of my Twenty-Five quilts challenge, in which I blog daily about recent finishes.

I've made several Grinch quilts recently!

I start with a panel, cut out the printed rectangles, and add two Grinchy fabric borders to each block.

As with most panels, the fabric printing is imperfect, so you can't just cut "on the lines" -- you need to measure each printed rectangle, and center the design as best you can.

I also made some pillow covers, enlarging the side borders so the covers would fit square cushions.

Merry Grinchmas!

Finishes

After a long unintended silence, it's time to do some sharing on my blog again! Here are some of the projects I've been working on:

Custom orders have been pretty steady lately -- pictured above are some of my recent finishes.

I'm still plugging away at bindings on the stack of quilts I finished in June. I just finished this vibrant Soul Blossoms Granny Squares quilt this morning. I love the way the Kona medium grey sets off all the beautiful colors!

I gave myself a little break from custom orders earlier this month and put together this patchwork quilt using 4 charm packs of Basic Grey's PB and J collection. I was surprised by how much I was drawn to this collection -- I really love the mixture of colors and prints. I used the alphabet print for the backing, and the red chevron print for the binding.

I love it so much that I'm currently working on a Scrappy Trip quilt using jelly rolls of the collection (I'll share some progress pics of that soon!)

Now that my custom orders are winding down, I look forward to putting my energy into finishing four new patterns -- hopefully, I will be ready to share those soon!

Friday Finishes

I've had a pretty productive week finishing up some custom orders!

I had fun putting together this custom palette of navy, yellow and red to match a customer's nursery.

I also made my first flag bunting. I used a triangle ruler to cut the flags, stitched them wrong sides together, pinked the edges, and sewed them to a strip of bias.

I finally got a chance to play with Patti Sloniger's new line for Michael Miller fabrics, Les Amis. Just like Backyard Baby, these cottons are so soft and silky to work with.

I also made a matching stroller blanket..

...pillow cover, and burp cloth.

All of these items are on their way to their new homes, but I have listed made-to-order versions of the Les Amis quilts in my Etsy shop.

Finishes to Share!

As promised, here are a few custom items that are either finished, or in the final stages! The first was a simple patchwork design mixing several Bonnie and Camille fabric collections, as well as a few grey chevrons to match the intended nursery. I've made several of these, and I love how they come together -- Bliss, Ruby and Vintage Modern mix so well together! I did forget to take a picture with the binding finished --oops!

This next one was just completed today. The customer liked my Ahoy Matey quilt and wanted something similar with airplanes. Here's the Ahoy Matey quilt, which actually uses a pre-printed panel for the center:

Since I didn't have the option of a panel, I photocopied and enlarged images from the cute airplane border fabric (On the Go by Bo Bunny for Riley Blake Fabrics):

And here's the finished quilt:

Normally, I would not have sewn on the borders before adding the appliqués, but I needed to get an idea of the scale of the final quilt. I also ran out of Heat and Bond lite (my favorite appliqué tool) and had to send my husband to the store for more, so sewing on the borders ahead of time helped with the impending deadline! I love the way it turned out -- I think I'll be listing a made-to-order version in my shop soon!

Finally, I'm hand-sewing the binding on this Sugar and Spice quilt (LOVE striped bindings!) so it can head off to its new home soon.

Tomorrow evening, I'll be working on finishing a quilt top that has taken longer than anticipated -- I'm excited to be in the final stages! More to share soon!
