Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 24

I love Amy Butler's fabrics! In fact, I especially love Amy Butler's Love fabric collection.

I don't know what it is about her fabrics, but you always think they won't go together, and in the end, they work.

I had origally planned on making two smaller tumbler quilts (these were cut with my Accuquilt 6" die) -- my favorite size for a baby/lap quilt is 10 rows of 12 tumblers. Instead, I pieced 15 rows of 16 tumblers (which took quite a while!) to make this twin-size version.

I didn't think I had enough of any one fabric for the backing, but I managed to piece together a few remnants of this fabric to cover the entire back.

I think I'll add this one to next week's binding marathon pile!

Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 14

Today's featured quilt in my Twenty-Five Quilts blogging challenge is another tumbler quilt (always a favorite!)

This summer, I was finally able to visit one of my favorite online quilt shops, The Intrepid Thread, in Milpitas, CA. I love their selection, and it was such a pleasure to be able to see all of the fabrics in person.

I started with a multi-colored triangle print (lower right in above photo) and used it to choose all of the coordinates. The only thing I added from stash at home was the Amy Butler spots print.

I love the color combo, and I also love that many of the fabrics read as solids from far away.

I couldn't resist backing this one in some cuddly minky!

Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 4

Thanks for joining me on my twenty-five quilts in 25 days journey! Today's feautred quilt began with a collection of fabrics that I fell in love with (while shopping for entirely different fabrics, of course!). The fabrics are from the Adorn-It Nested Owls collection. I love the corals and aquas, as wells as the combinations of floral, dots, chevrons, and leaves.

I used my Accuquilt Go to cut 120 tumblers (set in 10 rows of twelve). They sew together beautifully with the pre-trimmed dog-eared corners.

I couldn't resist purchasing the coordinating minky fabric for the backing.

The pictures do not do the fabrics justice -- they are much prettier in person!

Tumbler Quilts

I finished two quilts this past week that have something in common -- tumblers!

The first is from an older Riley Blake collection by Doohickey Designs called Fox Trails -- still one of my favorite boy or gender-neutral collections! Love the color scheme and the prints! I still have more in my stash, but this might be my last tumbler quilt from this fabric line!
The second tumbler quilt is from a newer Riley Blake collection called Sasparilla by October Afternoon. I purchased a set of half yards almost as soon as the collection was released, but the fabric has been sitting in a basket waiting for me to cut it ever since! I had a break between custom orders last week because I was waiting for materials to arrive, so I decided it was time to sew some Sasparilla!

How cute is that cowboy/ cowgirl print on the back?!

I even added a few extra rows of tumblers to the back! (By the way, all the tumblers were cut using the Accuquilt 6 1/2 inch tumbler die -- one of my favorites)!

Stash Hoarding, the Sequel, Day 2: Make Life

A stash hoarding series would not be complete without an entry by Sweetwater. In fact, this year's Stash Hoarding Series will include TWO Sweetwater collections.

Of course, I am still completely smitten by one of last year's stash hoarding entries, Authentic, but I have other favorites as well.

Sweetwater's second collection for Moda, Make Life, was an entirely different color palette from their wildly successful collection Authentic. But it contains some of the same elements that make their fabrics so wonderful: dots, stripes, text prints, etc. As soon as it was available, I wasted no time in making one of my Hip to Be Square quilts:

I also made a tumbler quilt out of some of the collection. This picture is a nice representation of the beautiful colors and prints:

Earlier this year, I revisited the collection and made a couple of additional Hip to Be Square quilts, as well as a matching burp cloth and stroller blanket for a customer:

This charcoal grey minky dot was a perfect backing for the burp cloth, even though the fabric in the collection reads dark brown.

I can't believe I was able to find enough of the green text print on the Internet to back the quilt -- very hard to find nowadays!

Occasionally, I come across some reasonably priced Make Life charm packs, and I can't help but snatch them up. I'm definitely still not over this fun collection!

Tomorrow, I'll share my next favorite Sweetwater collection, Any guesses as to what it will be?

Finish the Flimsies Challenge Quilts 2 and 3

Tonight's finishes are both from an adorable line from Dear Stella Fabrics called "All Hands on Deck". I'm loving the preppy color palette and the nautical theme.

I had a tumbler quilt in mind when I purchased the fabrics, so I bought half yards of 11 prints for a nice variety (the tumblers were cut with the 6 1/2 Accuquilt tumbler die

As I was cutting the fabrics into strips to run through the die cutter, I realized that with careful cutting, I could also get enough pieces out of the leftovers to make a quilt in my Hip to Be Square pattern.

I was able to piece a row of extra tumblers to help stretch the backing fabric a bit, and add a cool design element to the back

Only seventeen more flimsies left to quilt!

Stash Hoarding, Day 2: Authentic

This week, I am doing a series of posts on the top five fabric collections I love to hoard! I am a huge fan of Sweetwater's fabrics, but my favorite of those by far is their first collection for Moda, entitled "Authentic". This was one of the first quilts I made for my Etsy shop, and it was the second quilt I ever sold. I just love the color palette of black, grey, cream and green. It is simple, yet striking, and it always looks so modern and fresh.

I wish I had a bought a bolt each of the black polka dot, and the green text print! Love them!
I've remade the original quilt a total of three times; each time, it has sold quickly!
I even made a tumbler quilt using my Accuquilt die -- this was back when yardage was still available.
I also made some adorable onesies!
I love this collection so much that I use this picture as my blogger and etsy shop avatar:
Here's a picture of some of my Authentic stash (and you can see a bit of another Sweetwater project in progress in the background, using one of their newer lines, Reunion)
I will admit to overpaying for some of this, but it is just so impossible to find that it's hard not to purchase it when you do come across it! Luckily, Sweetwater keeps coming up with new tempting collections; in fact, their newest one, Mama Said Sew, was inspired by Authentic. I haven't made anything with this collection yet, but I do like the graphic look of the fabrics, so I'm excited about the possibilities!

I have had plans for several years to make myself a purse using Authentic so that I can enjoy it every day; I just haven't gotten around to cutting into it (or maybe I'm still afraid to cut it!) Tomorrow night is our first quilt guild meeting of the year, so maybe I'll be brave enough to pledge this as a project to complete by June! I'll let you know....

Tune in tomorrow for another out-of-print favorite from my stash!
