Bucket List Quilt # 4

The subtitle of today's post is "A Tale of Two Jellybeans". As you might recall, I set a goal of making six quilts from a bucket list of patterns this year.

So far, I've completed Pow-Wow, Carnival, and Juggle, and the next one on the agenda was Jellybean. I decided to make it out of a Verna Kate Spain jelly roll:

I was quite enjoying the zen-ness of the project -- until partway through adding the cream corners when I suddenly realized that it DID matter which way the stripes were facing when you added the background fabric. Luckily, I caught myself in time to purposely make half the blocks incorrectly so that at least I would end up with a cohesive design.
That meant a redo was in order, so here is the actual design, made out of a Persimmon jelly roll (Basic Grey).

I backed this one in a super soft minky, and am already putting it to good use on these cool fall nights!

Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 25

It has been quite a month of quilts!

When I decided to issue myself the challenge of blogging about 25 quilts during the month of December, I had no idea how much I would be able to accomplish in this very busy month!

I actually began the month with a series of scheduled blog posts of quilts I had completed prior to December 1 (I think there were 7 or 8). I also had a few completed tops that were ready for quilting, and a few quilts that just needed binding. By mid-December, however, I was running short on both time and completed quilts! The challenge motivated me to power through and keep on finishing!

So, today's post is actually about a quilt-in-progress that is a Christmas gift to myself. This summer, I won a PB & J jelly roll from a giveaway hosted by Sherri of A Quilting Life. I wanted to do something special with the jelly roll, so I decided on a Scrappy Trips quilt.

I also decided that I needed a quilt with minky on the back, to keep me warm during late fall soccer games, and early spring baseball games. So the final size of the quilt was dictated by the width of the minky. I chose a layout of 30 blocks (5 x 6), which I made from two jelly rolls and six fat quarters.

By the way, if you decide to make this quilt from jelly rolls, you can make a bonus coins quilt from leftovers like the one I blogged about yesterday. Cut each jelly roll strip in half (approx 21 inches long). Piece your strips sets with six strips. Before you sew the strips into a tube, as per the instructions, cut a five inch piece off the strip set and set aside. I sewed three of these together to make a row of coins for a baby quilt.

I completed the top today, and hope to have it quilted by tomorrow morning!

I hope to bring this quilt on a long train ride tomorrow night, to visit family in Indianapolis. I'd like it to serve the dual purpose of entertaining me (hand sewing the binding) and keeping me cozy as I sleep on the train!

Happy holidays to you and yours, and thanks for joining me on this journey of quilts! To read about the journey from the beginning, start here!

Finishes

After a long unintended silence, it's time to do some sharing on my blog again! Here are some of the projects I've been working on:

Custom orders have been pretty steady lately -- pictured above are some of my recent finishes.

I'm still plugging away at bindings on the stack of quilts I finished in June. I just finished this vibrant Soul Blossoms Granny Squares quilt this morning. I love the way the Kona medium grey sets off all the beautiful colors!

I gave myself a little break from custom orders earlier this month and put together this patchwork quilt using 4 charm packs of Basic Grey's PB and J collection. I was surprised by how much I was drawn to this collection -- I really love the mixture of colors and prints. I used the alphabet print for the backing, and the red chevron print for the binding.

I love it so much that I'm currently working on a Scrappy Trip quilt using jelly rolls of the collection (I'll share some progress pics of that soon!)

Now that my custom orders are winding down, I look forward to putting my energy into finishing four new patterns -- hopefully, I will be ready to share those soon!
