Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 24

I love Amy Butler's fabrics! In fact, I especially love Amy Butler's Love fabric collection.

I don't know what it is about her fabrics, but you always think they won't go together, and in the end, they work.

I had origally planned on making two smaller tumbler quilts (these were cut with my Accuquilt 6" die) -- my favorite size for a baby/lap quilt is 10 rows of 12 tumblers. Instead, I pieced 15 rows of 16 tumblers (which took quite a while!) to make this twin-size version.

I didn't think I had enough of any one fabric for the backing, but I managed to piece together a few remnants of this fabric to cover the entire back.

I think I'll add this one to next week's binding marathon pile!

Quilt-A-Day, Day 9

This month, I'm challenging myself to blog about a new or recent finish every day.

This one is definitely one of my favorites! I used a bunch of Amy Butler scraps to make floating nine patch blocks (inspired by this quilt).
The squares in the blocks are cut at 3 1/2 inches, and they go together pretty quickly. It was lots of fun to see this one come together!

I'm working on a similar quilt in Heather Bailey scraps, so I can't wait to share that one when it's finished!

Easter Sunday Sewing

I realize it has been quiet on the blog this month (again!) so I will try to remedy that this week! I have been working on more custom orders, but this weekend, I let myself "play" with some WIP's!

I had some Sasparilla fabric left over from the tumbler quilt I made, so in an effort to not let too many scraps pile up, I made this quilt. I just love the colors, and the cowboy motifs!

This Ruby pinwheel quilt was a WIP that just needed borders. All of the pinwheels were made from half square triangle blocks left over from a previous project. It was originally going to be all scrappy, but I'm glad I matched the fabrics as pinwheels -- I like the way it looks!

Finally, I used some Amy Butler scraps to make this floating nine patch quilt (inspired by the Red Pepper Quilts version here). These were easy blocks to make, and I loved seeing the top come together! I definitely want to play with this design again!

New Pattern in the Shop!

Finally -- a new pattern for the shop is ready!

I really like to gear my patterns toward making the most of precuts. This pattern uses one layer cake, and some background fabric, to make three different 40" square baby quilt designs.

The patterns are based on enlarged quilt blocks (hence the name "Baby Blocks!") so they go together really fast -- perfect for when you need a baby gift in a hurry!

I made my three sample quilts from Kate Spain's "Terrain" collection.

As a bonus, I have included instructions on making three pillows in the same designs, using one charm pack and less than a yard of background fabric.

These were made from Amy Butler's Love fabrics, and one of my favorite background choices -- Kona Ash.

The pattern is now available for purchase in my Etsy shop, as well as my Craftsy shop!

I've got some other patterns in the works, so I hope to have more to share soon!

Finish it up Friday

Wow -- I didn't realize how much time had passed since my last post. My silence is certainly not due to lack of things to show -- I have been sewing up a storm! Get ready for a picture-heavy post!

This past week, I finished up four quilt bindings while I was away at a conference. First up is All Hands on Deck by Dear Stella:

Good Fortune (Kate Spain, Moda Fabrics):

I was able to use almost all of my scraps on the back -- this project was part of my personal "use it up" summer challenge.

Midwest Modern (Amy Butler)-- this quilt had been planned at least two years ago -- I'm glad to have it finally completed!

Les Amis (Patti Sloniger, Michael Miller Fabrics) -- one of the four Les Amis quilt tops I posted about here.

When I returned from the conference, I finished these matching Ahoy Matey pillow shams for a customer:

Today, I'm hoping to get this top quilted (made out of mostly Wheels by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake Fabrics).

And maybe get these sewn into a top (Seaside, Riley Blake Fabrics)

I'm also giving myself some blogging homework -- I'm planning a follow up to my Stash Hoarding Series that I did last September. Stay tuned!

Finish the Flimsies Challenge quilts 17 and 18

These two quilts are made from the same pattern -- but they are as different as night and day! Last summer, I participated in the Great Granny Square Quilt Along project (the pattern and information can be found here). The blocks are so addicting, and a great way of using up 2 1/2 inch scraps. The first quilt I made was in Parisville by Tula Pink. Last fall, I decided to play with the pattern again, and I love the way both of these quilts turned out!

This one was made out of Bliss (Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabrics) and a bag full of white scraps.

I absolutely LOVE how this one turned out! The border is from the Ruby collection by Bonnie and Camille, and the backing is a super soft flannel, also in Ruby. I will definitely blog more about this one once the threads are trimmed and the binding is attached.

I also wanted to see how the pattern would look with one of my other favorite background colors: grey. I chose the Soul Blossoms collection by Amy Butler, and I think the quilt looks so modern and cheerful.

The row of blocks on the bottom is my favorite!

When I made the Parisville quilt, I just set the blocks together, but after making these two, I definitely recommend adding the sashing and border. Not only does it finish the quilt off nicely, it also stabilizes the bias edges in the blocks.Only TWO more quilt tops left to go in my Finish the Flimsies Challenge!
