Twenty-Five Quilts, Day 6

One of my resolutions this year was to use up some stash (to free up room for new fabric, of course!). When I received a custom order for a Les Amis quilt this fall, I decided to cut up all of my remaining Les Amis fabrics and make two quilts. This is the "leftovers" quilt -- the custom order version had 42 blocks -- but this one makes a nice crib size.

I didn't want to purchase any extra fabric for the backing, so I pieced together some scraps from the from, as well as two Les Amis fabrics from previous quilt backings. I really like the way it turned out!

I will miss these fabrics -- they are just adorable -- but I'm sure there are many lovely fabrics waiting to take their place in my storage drawers!

Finish it up Friday

Wow -- I didn't realize how much time had passed since my last post. My silence is certainly not due to lack of things to show -- I have been sewing up a storm! Get ready for a picture-heavy post!

This past week, I finished up four quilt bindings while I was away at a conference. First up is All Hands on Deck by Dear Stella:

Good Fortune (Kate Spain, Moda Fabrics):

I was able to use almost all of my scraps on the back -- this project was part of my personal "use it up" summer challenge.

Midwest Modern (Amy Butler)-- this quilt had been planned at least two years ago -- I'm glad to have it finally completed!

Les Amis (Patti Sloniger, Michael Miller Fabrics) -- one of the four Les Amis quilt tops I posted about here.

When I returned from the conference, I finished these matching Ahoy Matey pillow shams for a customer:

Today, I'm hoping to get this top quilted (made out of mostly Wheels by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake Fabrics).

And maybe get these sewn into a top (Seaside, Riley Blake Fabrics)

I'm also giving myself some blogging homework -- I'm planning a follow up to my Stash Hoarding Series that I did last September. Stay tuned!

Finished Tops and False Starts

I'm working on one of my ten summer goals -- cutting and sewing fabrics that have been set aside for projects and are taking over the floor of my sewing room! I had a pile of Patty Sloniger's adorable Les Amis fabrics, and I managed to create four tops (various sizes) with only a few scraps leftover! Now I've got to get these on the quilt machine frame before they become a pile of unquilted tops!

I also made a yellow and grey baby quilt out of a pile of leftovers from a previous custom order. This one just needs binding, and I have enough squares left to create a second quilt.

I used some leftover grey minky and some scrap pieces from the yellow and grey quilt to make these burp cloth and onesie sets:

I had a great time sewing together this scrappy top for a customer, made from Hunky Dory fabrics by Chez Moi -- now I'm just waiting for the backing to arrive!

Finally, I laid out these squares I had cut from another set of leftover fabrics, only to discover that I really didn't like the overall look. (I don't think the caf liked it either). After some consideration, I decided that I will edit a few of the prints, and turn it into a chevron top using this pattern. More to come on that later!

Friday Finishes

I've had a pretty productive week finishing up some custom orders!

I had fun putting together this custom palette of navy, yellow and red to match a customer's nursery.

I also made my first flag bunting. I used a triangle ruler to cut the flags, stitched them wrong sides together, pinked the edges, and sewed them to a strip of bias.

I finally got a chance to play with Patti Sloniger's new line for Michael Miller fabrics, Les Amis. Just like Backyard Baby, these cottons are so soft and silky to work with.

I also made a matching stroller blanket..

...pillow cover, and burp cloth.

All of these items are on their way to their new homes, but I have listed made-to-order versions of the Les Amis quilts in my Etsy shop.
